The GEHWOL Story

More than 150 years of German foot care

  1. 1868

    The pharmacy in Lübbecke

Eduard Gerlach, a qualified pharmacist, took over his father's dry goods business in Lübbecke, Germany, and added a pharmacy to it, the first in the Lübbecke area. Foot care was not yet the focus of the business, but it soon would be.

    A cream for working feet

Comfortable leather shoes were still out of reach for most people, and factory and farm workers spent long days on their feet. Gerlach saw what they needed, and in 1882 he introduced the first industrially produced foot care cream, E. GERLACH'S PRESERVATIVE CREAM.

    The GEHWOL name

The GEHWOL trademark was registered in 1910. The name went on to become the company's foot care brand, and it has stayed on every product since.

    FUSSKRAFT for foot care practices

In post-war Germany, professional foot care grew into a service of its own. GEHWOL listened to the specialists working with feet every day and introduced GEHWOL FUSSKRAFT in 1961, a line designed for the needs of foot care practices.
